A Meyers Christmas is scheduled to shoot in the city from Oct. 26 until Dec. 11. Pre-production begins next week.

Set in the world of electronic dance music and starring Zac Efron, it had the second worst opening in 30 years for a new live action movie in wide release — behind 2012’s Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure.

Birth of the Dragon goes into production at Vancouver’s North Shore Studios and around the city at the end of October. Cameras are scheduled to roll for a month.

Pop Goes The News — Among the most highly anticipated movies coming to theatres before the end of the year are Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Martian, Spectre, Pan, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and Creed.

Also opening in the next four months are several movies that were made in Canada.

Pop Goes The News — Canadian actress Ellen Page confronted Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Friday about LGBT issues.

Page, who was born in Halifax, approached Cruz, who was born in Calgary, at the Iowa State Fair and asked him about the “persecution of gays in the workplace and LGBT rights.”

Pop Goes The News — Canadian actor Kevin Zegers and his wife Jaime Feld welcomed twin girls Zoe Madison and Blake Everleigh.
