Pop Goes The News — Canadians Emma Donoghue, Rachel McAdams and The Weeknd are among the nominees announced Thursday for the 88th Academy Awards.

Donoghue is up for the Adapted Screenplay prize for Room and McAdams is competing for Supporting Actress for her work in Spotlight.

Pop Goes The News — Canadian actor Jacob Tremblay’s performance in Room has earned the 9-year-old a 2016 Dorian Awards nomination.

Canada’s Emma Donoghue, who wrote Room, is also among the nominations announced Tuesday by the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA).

The list comes from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association. Awards will be handed out Jan. 17 on A&E.
