Pop Goes The News — The season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones on April 24 was quite possibly the most Canadian episode ever.

It was directed by a native of Ontario, partly filmed in Alberta, and packed with visual effects done in British Columbia and Quebec. It was also subsidized by Canadian taxpayers.

Pop Goes The News — Actor Ian McShane has revealed a little bit about the character he plays in the upcoming sixth season of Game of Thrones.

“I’ll give you one hint,” McShane  told Pop Goes The News on Thursday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Pop Goes The News — Canada’s Paula Fairfield picked up a Creative Arts Emmy Award on Saturday for her work on Game of Thrones.

Fairfield is part of a team of seven who won for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series for the episode Hardhome.

Pop Goes The News — When singer Janis Ian married her longtime partner Patricia Snyder at Toronto City Hall in 2003, witnesses included Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

Martin was among the couple’s friends who donned Hawaiian shirts for the ceremony, which was officiated by Rev. George Malcolm Sinclair of the Metropolitan United Church.
