Viggo Mortensen to direct, star in ‘Falling’ in Toronto

Pop Goes The News – Viggo Mortensen, who stars in the Golden Globe-winning film Green Book, will make his directorial debut next month in Toronto.

The 60-year-old actor will helm the family drama Falling, which is scheduled to shoot in and around the city from Feb. 27 to April 10.

Mortensen also wrote the screenplay and will star as a man living with his male partner (Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason) and their adopted daughter who confronts his relationship with his aging and conservative father (Lance Henriksen).

Mortensen should feel right at home in Toronto, where he made 2005’s A History of Violence with hometown director David Cronenberg and where he has been a regular guest of TIFF. (He’ll also be a short one-hour flight away from Montreal, where he can catch his beloved Canadiens in action.)
