Mark McKenna is Toronto-bound to star in ‘Wayne’

Pop Goes The News – Irish actor Mark McKenna will be in Toronto this summer starring in a new series for YouTube Red.

Wayne is described as an action-comedy about a teenager who does whatever he has to do to retrieve a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am that was stolen from his deceased father.

McKenna, 21, has previously appeared only in productions in his native Ireland. He made his on-screen debut in the 2016 musical comedy Sing Street and, last year, appeared in two episodes of TV mini-series Kat and Alfie: Redwater.

Co-starring in Wayne is Ciara Brown, also 21, who starred in TV series like Big Time Rush and Red Band Society. Joshua J. Williams (Mudbound) has a recurring role.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wenick, who wrote Deadpool, are among the series’ producers.

Cameras are scheduled to roll from mid-June until mid-October.

YouTube Red – currently only available in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Korea – ordered the series after seeing the pilot, which was shot in Toronto last December.
