Pop Goes The News — Cameras will start rolling in Toronto on a feature adaptation of The Dogs of Babel.

The movie is based upon Carolyn Pankhurst’s 2003 novel of the same name about a linguist named Paul Iverson who tries to teach his dog Lorelei to speak because it’s the only witness to his wife’s murder.

In 2011, Steve Carell’s company Carousel Productions announced it was bringing The Dogs of Babel to the screen with Carell set to star and John Carney as director. Those plans were halted for unknown reasons.

It’s not yet known who is currently attached to the project but production is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 27.

Another piece of literature being turned into a film in Ontario this year is In The Tall Grass, based on a 2012 novella written by Stephen King and his son Joe King. Cameras are expected to roll in July.

A sequel to the box office smash It, which was based on King’s 1986 book, also starts shooting in July with director Andy Muschietti.
