‘SNL’ star Jay Pharoah among additions to Just For Laughs

Pop Goes The News — Jay Pharoah will have a chance to do his Drake impression in the rapper’s home country this summer.

The Saturday Night Live cast member is scheduled to host JFL All Access Live on July 27 (two shows) as part of the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal.

Also added to the festival lineup on Wednesday are Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Russell Peters, Sebastian Maniscalco and P.K. Subban (yes, P.K. Subban).

Pharoah’s list of impressions includes Barack Obama, Jay-Z, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, and Eddie Murphy. On the May 14 episode of SNL he imitated Drake — in front of Drake.

Last year, Pharoah told The Guardian: “I’ll just be walking down the street and people will shout out impressions for me to do, like ‘Yo, Denzel!’ or they’ll come up to me and say, ‘Yo, do [SNL character] Principal Frye!’ But I’m like, I’m Jay Pharoah right now, I’m just walking, I’m just chilling.”

The 28-year-old has been on SNL since 2010 and had a small part in 2014’s Ride Along.

Comedy vets Kroll and Mulaney are bringing their characters Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland respectively to JFL in their acclaimed show OH, HELLO. It runs July 28 to 30 at Le Gesu.
