CBC News anchor Suhana Meharchand battling cancer

Pop Goes The News — Veteran Canadian news anchor Suhana Meharchand revealed Monday she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Meharchand, 53, shared her battle on Twitter, adding that it is “very tough going.”

The CBC News Network anchor asked viewers to “please share your positive thoughts.”

Born in South Africa and raised in Toronto, Meharchand worked at Hamilton’s CHCH and Windsor’s CBET before spending several years at CJOH in Ottawa.

In 1995, she took over the anchor spot at CBC in Toronto before moving to CBC News Network, where she does the 9am to 12 noon shift on weekdays.

Meharchand has three children, including a daughter with former fiancé Adam Vaughan, currently a Liberal MP.
