Global News apologizes for saying Ghomeshi pleaded guilty

Pop Goes The News — Global News apologized late Monday for declaring that Jian Ghomeshi admitted to sexual assault.

The former CBC Radio host is on trial this week for four counts of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by choking — all related to alleged incidents in 2002 and 2003.

Ghomeshi pleaded not guilty to the charges last October.

But, in a commercial for Global National that aired during prime time in some markets, an announcer said Ghomeshi “pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual assault.”

Troy Reeb, senior vice president of Global News, quickly tweeted a correction and apology.
