Canadian music icon Ron Hynes hospitalized

Pop Goes The News — Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Hynes, who revealed last month a second battle with cancer, was hospitalized early Tuesday.

The 64-year-old Newfoundland musician was taken to hospital by ambulance.

No further details were immediately available.

Hynes’ current tour, including a show scheduled for Sunday in Hampton, NB, has been cancelled.

In late October, Hynes announced he was diagnosed with lung and hip cancer and had been undergoing radiation treatment and chemotherapy.

In 2012, Hynes underwent treatments for throat cancer.

A founding member of The Wonderful Grand Band, Hynes has released seven albums of his own and has collected seven East Coast Music Awards. He also earned Juno and Canadian Country Music Award nominations.
