Pop Goes The News — Supermodel Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber have opened up their Ontario cottage to Vogue.

The September issue of the fashion magazine features an “exclusive” look at the couple’s “private island retreat” on Lake Joseph in the Muskoka region north of Toronto.

Photographer Carter Smith captured the rugged beauty of the area as well as images of Crawford and her children — son Presley, 16, and daughter Kaia, 13 — enjoying the lake.

The family built the cottage on 1.8 hectares of land on Laurie Island seven years ago and spends about a month there every summer, arriving by private jet at Muskoka airport in Gravenhurst and then boarding a float plane for the 50-kilometre journey north.

Crawford and Gerber, who married in 1998, fell in love with Muskoka more than a dozen years ago.

Vogue describes the area as “a place of stunning beauty and, for a certain kind of visitor, comforting remoteness.”

Crawford told the magazine she enjoys a certain anonymity at the lake. “These days I’m the perfect amount of famous: enough to get a dinner reservation but not enough to get hassled.”

Crawford regularly shares photos from Muskoka on Instagram.

She said the family looks forward to wild blueberries, donuts, Niagara Gold cheese, and poutine.

On Instagram this summer, Crawford and Gerber were pictured visiting Abbey’s Bakehouse and Grand Electric Muskoka in Port Carling, Ont.

There are no clocks in the cottage, Crawford added. “The point here is to slow everything down,” she said.

“Life moves quickly, but it will wait.”
