Pop Goes The News — To mark what would have been the 90th birthday of Canadian jazz great Oscar Peterson, eBay Canada is offering 25 of his prized possessions.
A portion of the proceeds from the online auction will benefit World Vision Canada.
Until Aug. 24, fans can bid on the famed musician’s Studio 49 midi keyboard, Calrec Soundfield Microphone, Teac cassette deck and Korg OASYS synthesizer.
A bespoke blazer Peterson worn at the unveiling of his Canada Post stamp and a tuxedo jacket he wore at a number of concerts are also up for grabs.
Montreal-born Peterson, who died in 2007 at 82, won eight Grammy Awards during his career, including a lifetime achievement award in 1997. A Companion of the Order of Canada, he was the first recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Peterson performed with music icons like Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie.

The items in the auction were chosen by Kelly Peterson, the jazz star’s widow and trustee of his estate.
“We are delighted to share some of his iconic treasures with his beloved fans,” she said, in a release.
“These items are a celebration of his life and love for jazz.”
Also in commemoration of Peterson’s 90th is an album of his previously-unreleased original compositions recorded by jazz artists like Chick Corea and Renee Rosnes. Oscar, With Love is currently available for pre-order.
The album’s December release will be celebrated with a concert in Toronto. One of the eBay auction items is a package that includes a pair of tickets to the show, a photo with Peterson’s Bösendorfer Imperial Grand piano and a meet and greet with performers at an after-party.
