Toronto-shot ‘The Strain’ renewed for third season

Pop Goes The News | U.S. cable network FX announced Friday it has renewed the made-in-Toronto series The Strain for third season.

The supernatural drama was created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan based on their trilogy of novels. It stars Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro and Canada’s Kevin Durand.

The Strain debuted on FX in the U.S. and Canada in July 2014. Its sophomore season  began last month.

Production of the third season is scheduled to begin in November.

At the same time, cameras will start rolling in Toronto on Del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2, which has the working title Maelstrom.
