Pop Goes The News — Cameras will roll in B.C. later this year on the third movie in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise.

War of the Planet of the Apes follows last year’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Those two films — which were partly made in B.C. — grossed a combined $1.2 billion worldwide.

Matt Reeves, who directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will be back to make the third movie, which he co-wrote with Mark Bomback.

Production is scheduled from mid-October to early March, based out of Mammoth Studios in Burnaby.

Reeves, a sci-fi fan, is using the working title Hidden Fortress — a nod to the 1958 Akira Kurosawa film that inspired Star Wars.

Casting is currently underway and War of the Planet of the Apes is due in cinemas in July 2017.
